Pepper
Our day took an unexpected and heartbreaking turn. Today, the coolest cat we’ve ever known, our sweet Pepper—crossed the rainbow bridge. Cancer. We’re devastated. None of us were ready to say goodbye to our girl.
From the moment we saw her, she earned the nickname “Dr. Pepper”. We just happened to be walking through a PetSmart and they had local kitties for adoption through a local foster organization. All the kitties were sleeping peacefully on the other side of their windows. Zane began to cry for some reason in the store and this adorable black and white cat woke up from her nap and began scratching on the glass as if she was trying to get to Zane to help him. All the other cats stayed asleep but Pepper was insistent. We came back another time the following week and the same thing happened. This time I believe it was Henley that was upset and Pepper did the SAME thing at the glass. It was like she knew, that we were her people and she belonged with us. We took her home and from day one she affectionaly became known as our most loved therapy cat. It wasn't just us either, every person who came to our house got the same treatment from Pepper. She always seemed to know who in the room needed extra snuggles. (Even those who swore they didn't like cats) She would go to them, snuggle up and begin to purr to comfort those in her care. She was even purring until her last breath. Our girl did so much life with us. She was a constant through years and years of chaos in our lives. Being our little nurse after surgeries or illnesses, she's seen all the tears and all the heartbreaks over the past 12 years. She's traveled the country with us in the RV and moved 3 houses with us. She's been by our side as we grieved losing Gracie and Colby and she's been a constant when everything else in our world seemed unstable. She's loved our babies through all of their stages and been there for every important milestone. I feel confident there will never be another one quite like her. Rest easy sweet girl. We'll miss you forever. You were one of a kind. 💔🌈
